About our client:
This major NZ organization is heavily driving digital transformation through advanced AI and machine learning operations. They feature a sophisticated in-house software engineering practice that collaborates directly with data scientists, data engineers, and AI specialists. It is a highly innovative environment where technical teams are empowered to build smart, scalable solutions that directly impact large-scale operations.

About the Role:

This is an exciting, hands-on opportunity for a solid Full Stack Software Engineer to join the operational AI delivery team. In this position, you will build end-to-end web applications that turn data science models and machine learning concepts into practical, production-ready tools. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, working closely with end users to understand their needs and bringing fresh ideas to the engineering practice.

This role is available in either Auckland or Hamilton with a hybrid arrangement requiring three days in the office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable web applications from scratch, managing both frontend and backend development
  • Work side-by-side with data scientists and AI engineers to deliver robust software solutions that integrate with operational systems
  • Engage directly with business stakeholders and end users to capture requirements, write user stories, and deliver immediate value
  • Act as a self-organizing team member who manages day-to-day project work and proactively reports on progress
  • Infuse AI tools into daily programming workflows and advocate for DevOps best practices within the engineering space

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as a solid Full Stack Developer building robust enterprise web applications
  • Strong development background in modern languages, particularly Python for backend development and React or JavaScript for frontend or versatility to work with other modern stacks such as C#, .NET, Java, or Go, provided you have balanced frontend and backend capabilities
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders and talk directly to end users
  • A self-starting mindset with the capability to operate independently without hand-holding
  • Continuous improvement ethos with a willingness to learn new technologies and accept constructive feedback
