Senior BAS Manager | East Tamaki



About the role

This is an opportunity for an experienced BAS professional to step into a senior client facing position within an established accounting practice in East Tamaki.

You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of business clients and work closely with Partners and senior leadership across accounting, tax and business advisory matters. Alongside managing client relationships, you’ll play an important role in reviewing work, managing workflow and supporting the development of junior and intermediate team members.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing a portfolio of business clients and acting as a key point of contact.
• Reviewing financial statements, tax returns and management accounts.
• Providing practical accounting, tax and business advisory support.
• Supporting clients with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial analysis.
• Helping business owners understand performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Managing workflow, deadlines and the delivery of assignments across the team.
• Reviewing work prepared by junior and intermediate accountants and providing constructive feedback.
• Supporting and mentoring team members in their technical and professional development.
• Working closely with Partners on complex client matters and broader advisory assignments.
• Identifying opportunities to strengthen client relationships and expand the services provided to existing clients.
• Maintaining high standards of quality, compliance and client service.

About you

You’re an experienced BAS professional who is comfortable managing clients independently and taking responsibility for the quality and delivery of work across a portfolio.

You combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and enjoy building long term relationships with business owners.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Strong BAS experience within a New Zealand accounting practice.
• Previous experience at Manager level, or substantial experience as an Assistant Manager ready to step up.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand accounting and tax requirements.
• A CA or CPA qualification.
• Experience managing a portfolio of business clients.
• Strong financial statement and tax compliance knowledge.
• Experience reviewing work prepared by other accountants.
• Confidence mentoring and supporting junior team members.
• Strong communication and relationship management skills.
• Experience using Xero and other accounting systems.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and oversee multiple client assignments.
• A commercial mindset and genuine interest in business advisory work.

The opportunity

This position would suit an established BAS Manager or experienced Assistant Manager looking for greater responsibility and the opportunity to take ownership of client relationships and team delivery.

You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, develop deeper advisory relationships with clients and contribute to the ongoing development of the wider BAS team.

The role is based in East Tamaki and provides a strong opportunity for someone looking to continue progressing their career within public practice while working closely with privately owned New Zealand businesses.
