Senior BAS Accountant | Whangārei



About the role

You’ll work closely with senior colleagues to deliver accounting and advisory services across a portfolio of privately owned business clients.

This is a hands on BAS position where you’ll take ownership of your work, build strong relationships with clients and contribute across compliance, tax and broader business advisory matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and reviewing financial statements, tax returns and management accounts.
• Managing day to day client relationships and responding to accounting and tax queries.
• Supporting clients with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow analysis.
• Helping clients understand their financial results and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Managing assignments to meet deadlines and maintain a high standard of work.
• Working with senior colleagues to resolve technical accounting and tax matters.
• Supporting junior team members through guidance and feedback.
• Contributing to broader business advisory work as your client relationships develop.

About you

You’re an experienced BAS professional who enjoys working directly with clients and taking ownership of your work.

You combine sound technical knowledge with clear communication and a practical approach to solving problems.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Relevant BAS experience within a New Zealand accounting practice.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand accounting and tax requirements.
• A CA or CPA qualification, or be working towards completion.
• Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for business clients.
• Confidence using Xero and other accounting systems.
• Strong communication and client relationship skills.
• The ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently.
• An interest in developing your advisory skills and supporting junior team members.

The opportunity This role would suit an experienced BAS Accountant looking to step into a Senior BAS Accountant position, or an established Senior seeking a new opportunity in Whangārei.

You’ll have the opportunity to take greater ownership of client relationships, broaden your exposure to advisory work and continue developing technically while working closely with experienced senior professionals.
