Treasury Advisor
About the Business Our client is an established boutique financial advisory firm based in New Zealand. They provide trusted, outsourced treasury and financial risk advice to mid-to-large corporates and local organizations. Partnering closely with CFOs and finance teams, they deliver independent, high-level guidance across foreign exchange (FX), interest rate management, debt structuring, and treasury governance.
The Opportunity A rare opportunity has become available for an analytical, client-facing Treasury Advisor or Senior Treasury Advisor to join their Auckland-based advisory practice.
Working alongside senior directors and principals, you will sit right at the intersection of technical financial modelling and commercial client engagement. You will serve as a trusted advisor to CFOs, Treasurers, and Boards, helping them navigate market volatility, design sound hedging strategies, and execute robust treasury policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Policy: Review, draft, and implement comprehensive Treasury Management Policies (TMP) tailored to client risk appetite and governance requirements.
- Risk & Hedging Advisory: Assess corporate balance sheet exposures across FX and interest rate risks; design and evaluate bespoke hedging solutions (forwards, swaps, options, interest rate caps/collars).
- Debt Advisory: Assist clients with debt funding structures, bank facility negotiations, margin benchmarking, and tender processes.
- Modelling & Valuations: Build and maintain financial/cash flow models, mark-to-market (MTM) derivative valuations, and debt portfolio trackers.
- Reporting & Market Insights: Draft board-ready monthly/quarterly reports, covenant compliance packs, hedge accounting documentation, and market commentary on currency and interest rate movements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a core point of contact for clients, participating in treasury committees and board meetings while collaborating with major trading banks.
What You’ll Bring
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field. Relevant certifications (CFA, CA, or ACT) are an advantage.
- Experience: 3–6 years of relevant background in:
- An in-house corporate treasury team
- Institutional or corporate banking
- A Big 4 / mid-tier treasury or financial risk advisory practice.
- Technical Acumen: Strong knowledge of wholesale financial markets, derivatives, and macroeconomic trends. Exposure to market platforms (Bloomberg/LSEG) or Treasury Management Systems (Kyriba, FIS, Visual Risk, etc.) is beneficial.
- Modelling Skills: Advanced Excel capabilities, including scenario analysis, debt amortization, and hedge valuations.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial strategies to non-treasury stakeholders and senior executives.
