Five Apps To Make Your Work Life Easier

There are two types of apps in the world: ones that distract you from getting work done, and ones that actually help you get it done.

Whispers in the office, couples muttering under their breath as they walk down the street, even the little old lady talking to the checkout operator – they’re all talking about their latest apps!

Gary is raving about the latest Instagram update and Stacey is complaining about Snapchat getting rid of her favourite face filter – I know, what is she going to do without the cute little bunny face?

But how often do you have a friend run to you bursting with excitement about the new work-related app that you just HAVE to have?! (*tumble weeds blow past*) Yeah, I can’t say that it’s ever happened to me…

Actually, there are a tonne of awesome apps out there to help make your workday run smoother than the first sip of coffee on a Monday morning – now that’s worth knowing about!

Here are 5 apps that will make your work life easier:

FREEDOM (IOS, ANDROID, MAC, FREE)

Blocks distractions on your phone or computer!

The app is super simple to use. All you need to do is create a list of the apps and websites that are your ‘personal weaknesses’ (Facebook, Instagram, everything, etc.) or that tend to distract you the most while you’re working. Just schedule sessions where you aren’t allowed to access those sites or start a session right away!

SOLID (IOS, FREE)

Make meetings better!

This is the app that will keep you organised before, during, and after meetings – saving you so much time! Solid claims you spend seven years (yes, seven!) of your life in meetings, so you’re going to want to figure out a good way to run them. From sending notifications to preparing the agenda to sticking to your schedule to sharing notes after the meeting, Solid has you covered for every one-off or recurring meeting you will have.

DOO (IOS, $5)

This app turns your tasks into a stack of cards so you can focus on one thing at a time – how awesome! It has a great layout and uses a lot of gestures that are strangely satisfying (like swiping up to complete something). You can also snooze tasks for later too – so they won’t get forgotten even if you can’t do them when initially planned.

Doo is ambitious too. It will encourage you to break an item into smaller tasks – nifty!

SCREENMEET (ANDROID, MAC, WINDOWS, FREE FOR ATTENDEES AND STARTS AT $20 PER MONTH FOR HOSTS)

Share your screen easily with a one-click screen share.

This app shares your phone screen so you can make a presentation, train your teammates to use software or apps, or even just pass along info. You can invite your co-workers to join a ScreenMeet – from any phone or computer – with just one click and they don’t have to install the app. No more fiddling with video calls and more time to get work done together.

WORLD TIME BUDDY (ANDROID, IOS, WEB, FREE)

Schedule meetings at the right time.

There aren’t many things worse than scheduling a meeting, sitting by the phone or computer and waiting for a call – then suddenly realising you’re in different time zones! This app makes time zone conversion super easy and displays it all into one easy table.
