About the Role

The Group Financial Controller is a senior and strategic role at Walter & Wild where you'll be accountable for shaping the financial control environment, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.

Reporting to the CFO, you will take full ownership of the Group’s multi-entity, and multi-country financial control function as well as managing the finance team. You're comfortable being hands on, leading with confidence, taking ownership, fostering a connected and high-performing team culture, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities include the following:
  • Owning the group finance and accounting function, setting clear objectives, and developing the finance team that supports this function.
  • Lead financial close processes across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with NZ IFRS.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate and meaningful financial reporting and insights are provided to key stakeholders.
  • Take accountability for audit and tax compliance, acting as the key liaison with auditors, regulators, and tax authorities.
  • Oversee treasury operations including cashflow management, banking relationships, FX/interest rate hedging, and credit exposure.
  • Playing a key role in the implementation of a new ERP in 2026.
  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure robust internal controls and governance frameworks are embedded across the organisation.

So Who Are You And What Is Your Profile?

We are looking for a seasoned Financial Controller with more than 10 years of post-qualification experience across accounting, management, and commercial operations, ready to contribute at a senior leadership level. You will need to be CA/CPA/CIMA qualified or equivalent and you will have worked in a similar senior role in a multi-entity environment. Technically you will be strong with excellent working knowledge of taxation, IFRS, treasury management, risk management, project management whilst also having a very strategic mindset.

You will possess strong leadership skills, you will have managed and developed large finance teams and your communication skills will be second to none. You will have advanced Excel and ERP systems skills and experience implementing/improving ERP systems and analytical tools.

Experience in the FMCG is an advantage, as well as a background in the Big 4.
