ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
Like all roles in the Legal and External Affairs function, this role is key and our client are looking for an outstanding individual who will be a key contributor in the role, in the Legal and External Affairs team and our business.

This Senor External Affairs Manager has responsibility for leading key business strategies and outcomes for the local business and broader global organisation. This is a broad-ranging and influential role which involves working effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver business outcomes, hence why your leadership, commercial and communication skills will be exceptional.

Your proven ability to build and maintain a range of relationships including core advocacy and influencing skills, external and government relations skills, and excellent communications skills will all be key indicators of your success.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
  • Implementing relevant external regulatory and public affairs agendas across a dynamic and evolving range of issues
  • Nurturing existing and developing new external stakeholder relationships, ensuring effective management of the corporate reputation
  • Managing a variety of key regulatory priorities, working closely with the business functions to discharge obligations around social awareness and responsibility
  • Leading the implementation of sustainability objectives in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and including their own ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) internal initiatives
  • Supporting corporate communications across multiple layers and a variety of channels
  • Being recognised as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders who delivers high level support and advice to other areas of the business such as Marketing, Finance and HR teams
  • Displaying your leadership by role modelling the values of their ethos, and inspiring others.
  
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing corporate or public affairs issues
  • Experience dealing with stakeholders on controversial and complex issues including having experience or exposure to senior leaders ideally above market, for example, regional or global stakeholder influence
  • Highly developed communication skills – written, oral and interpersonal, as well as an ability to influence, persuade and present effectively to diverse audiences
  • Strong communication and engagement skills, highly developed negotiation, influencing and relationship building skills

BENEFICIAL

  • Experience inside the political environment and/or in consultancy or in-house roles
  • An in-depth understanding of government and regulatory affairs
  • Experience working in or alongside industries in complex regulatory environments
  • An in-depth understanding of sustainability and environmental issues including policy approaches to waste management is advantageous
  • Experience working within or alongside a large corporate or FMCG company environment
