We Aucklanders often cop our fair share of flack (especially from our fellow Kiwis south of the Bombays). But we all know it’s laced with a sense of envy, or even jealousy...
Living in the city of sails ticks a lot of pretty cool boxes, and working in the accounting and finance profession in Auckland has never been better.
Here are five reasons why:
You’ll have far more opportunity to pursue your accounting and finance career in Auckland than elsewhere in New Zealand. Auckland is bigger than Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Hastings, New Plymouth and Dunedin combined - yes, bigger than ALL of them put together!
It also has its fair share of head offices, financial services, and accounting firms - all of which have a higher concentration of accounting and finance roles. If you roll the dice in any New Zealand city, you’re far more likely to find a role that’s the perfect fit in Auckland.
Auckland is New Zealand’s connection with the real world
We may be the last bus stop on earth and hours away from other countries, but if there was an invisible bridge connecting New Zealand with the rest of the world - it would start in Auckland. You just need to wander through the CBD or the airport’s international terminal to see what I mean.
Opportunity from all the growth
Auckland has ballooned in population over the last decade. There’s always a bunch of cranes on the city’s skyline and new suburbs sprouting out north, west, south and east. All our new neighbours need somewhere to live, eat, work and play. This means a lot of people and businesses can ride this wave of growth. If you can too, it's a great experience and great for your CV.
Auckland is an outdoor playground
Even if you don’t like to live like Bear Grylls in your weekends (and let’s be honest, probably not many of us do), you have to admire the huge variety of beautiful and natural places in our backyard.
What other city has 50 islands AND 48 volcanos? From the rugged west coast to the white sandy beaches of the east coast, and all the natural beauty of the Waitakeres - Auckland really does have it all.
Something for everyone
With 2 in every 5 of us born overseas, Auckland is one of the most diverse and multicultural cities in the world. We punch above our weight to cater for all our backgrounds and cultures. Want tapas, dumplings, or a Moroccan couscous dish? Want to go to a Diwali festival or a Buddhist temple? You can find all of that in Auckland.
Sure - the public transport isn’t the best in the world, and it rains a bit more than we’d all probably like. But there’s few places on earth that are as balanced and as liveable as Auckland.
